A Refresher on Masks

We’ve received questions recently about Trinity’s position on masks. It’s understandable, given the new Omicron variant, combined with the number of newer folks that have joined us over the past several months - since we last said anything about COVID. So, here’s a review of our position: Trinity Church is not mandating that our members or guests wear masks. However, if you wish to wear a mask and physically distance yourself from others, there will be zero judgment directed at you for doing so. In fact, we will continue to make available seat saver spacers in both services, as well as reserve a section of our sanctuary with 'every other row seating' – to provide physical distance that allows you to feel comfortable.

We want Trinity to be a no-judgment zone when it comes to the question of wearing masks – just like the no-judgment zone in our home. When Amanda and I have people into our home, we welcome them in, and then we say to them, “Feel free to keep your shoes on or take them off. Feel free to keep your coat on, or take it off. Feel free to keep your mask on or take it off. Either is fine. This is a no-judgment zone!” And then we spend time together, learning each other’s stories, sharing a meal together, and giving thanks to the One who has given us eternal fellowship with each other through Christ – such that by the end of our time together, we’re friends, we’re family – regardless of whatever our personal conviction might be about masks.

My prayer is that this is what we experience when we walk through the doors of Trinity: that a divergence of opinions about whether or not to wear a mask would be a blip on the radar in comparison to the warmth of our fellowship, the depth of our love for each other, and our sense of awe in the beauty of the gospel. May that be the case when we gather this Sunday!
