Greetings, Trinity Family! We're just a day away from Serve South Bend, and I'm so excited that you will be serving with us. I've got a couple of things to share in a moment, but first, a few logistical items:

  • If you have any last-minute questions reach out to your team leader ASAP. Don't know your leader, or how to get in touch with them? Send our team a text at 574-498-2140 and we'll get you connected with your leader.

  • Trinity teams will be serving all over Michiana throughout the day. The Photography team will be visiting sites, capturing the action so that we can tell stories about what God is doing in our community. If you're snapping photos throughout the day, you can share them with us by posting them on Facebook, just be sure to use #ServeSouthBend

  • Next, an update on t-shirts...we had a bunch of people sign up after we ordered t-shirts. We ordered extras and estimated the necessary sizes. To ensure that as many people get the size they need we're calling an audible. Rather than getting your shirt from your team leader so you can wear it tomorrow, you can pick up your shirt on Sunday at the Celebration Service and wear it around as a reminder of the mission we're always on, to be pointing others to Jesus by serving our community. Just stop by the table on Sunday, and a member of our team will get you a shirt.

People all over our community are hurting. They're dealing with loneliness, loss, broken relationships, joblessness, homelessness, and despair. Many of them wake up each morning wondering if there's any reason to have hope. As believers, we know the answer to that question. We have hope because we have Jesus. He has freed us from the chains of sin and despair, and he has commissioned us to carry his message of grace and hope into the world so that others would receive him and enjoy abundant life with him.

That's where you come in. Tomorrow, you will join over 250 people from the Trinity family to carry out the same mission we've been on for over 50 years, to be a light for the Gospel, right here in South Bend. From the folks wielding rakes and shovels, the ones driving nails or writing notes, to people prayer walking the streets of our community, we're casting light into the darkness. The result? God gets the glory! You're giving up your time on a beautiful Saturday to point the eyes of your neighbors toward the One that offers them life. If that doesn't get your heart pumping you may want to see your doctor, folks. Let's go!

So, as you ready yourself to serve tomorrow, be reminded of who you serve. Be aware that distractions and obstacles may come. Keep your eyes fixed on Jesus. Persevere and be meditating on Jesus’ words from Matthew 5:

“You are the light of the world. A town built on a hill cannot be hidden. Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead, they put it on its stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house. In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven."

We do the work, God gets the glory!

May that be our rally cry tomorrow.

I am so excited to see how the Lord will use you to draw people close to Him tomorrow and in the days and weeks ahead. I am praying for you as you prepare for tomorrow, and look forward to seeing how the Lord will use our time together for His glory and our good.
