Hebrews 10

April 26, 2022

“And let us consider how we may spur one another on toward love and good deeds, not giving up meeting together, as some are in the habit of doing, but encouraging one another—and all the more as you see the Day approaching.” ‭‭(v24-25)

One of the next steps that the author of Hebrews calls us to, following the good news of Christ’s “once for all” sacrifice for sins (v10, 12, 21), is that we “meet together” (v25) - to spur one another on and encourage each other. And that’s because, not only is God blessed when we set aside time for corporate worship, but we are built up.

Father, I praise You for what You’ve done for me through Christ. You are worthy of me setting aside time to gather with Your people. I still remember, in college, as a new believer, being shocked and discouraged by the number of Christians who would take a pass on going to church - for the lamest reasons. It was so clear that this was not an appropriate response to You saving us. May the clarity of that conviction (which is like a neon sign here in Hebrews 10) never fade in my heart. And may it increasingly become clear in the hearts of Your people at Trinity, too - that we would prioritize gathering together to worship You - in grateful response for the gospel!

Use the following steps to guide your daily time with the Lord…

  • Start with prayer. Ask God to open your heart to help you understand and receive His Word.

  • Read and observe the passage carefully. As needed, read a second Bible version to help with understanding.

    ➡️ What does it say?

What does this passage teach me about God? What does it say about my sinful nature and my need for God’s grace? How does this passage point to Jesus?

  • ➡️ What am I going to do about it?

Does this passage include a promise to claim, an action/attitude to avoid/embrace, or a principle to apply? How can this truth apply to my life? What could my next step be? How can I share this with others? Is there a verse or section of Scripture I need to memorize?
