Hebrews 13
April 29, 2022
“Now may the God of peace, who through the blood of the eternal covenant brought back from the dead our Lord Jesus, that great Shepherd of the sheep, equip you with everything good for doing his will, and may he work in us what is pleasing to him, through Jesus Christ, to whom be glory for ever and ever. Amen.” (v20-21)
The Book of Hebrews concludes with a benediction that is marked by:
Gospel: the good news of the covenant-establishing blood of our Shepherd, Jesus, and His resurrection from the dead.
Good Works: being equipped by Jesus to live a new life that is pleasing to God.
God’s Glory: living this new life to the glory of Jesus, since our salvation has been purchased by Him, and our sanctification empowered by Him!
God of peace, I praise You for Your great gift of Jesus, who went to the cross for my salvation, and who now equips me to live the life You created me to live. In the same way I was hopeless apart from Your saving work on the cross, I know I need Your ongoing sanctifying work today, if I’m going to live a life that is “pleasing to You” (v21). And so, I surrender myself to You anew, and invite You to do that work in me and through me that only You can do.

What does this passage teach me about God? What does it say about my sinful nature and my need for God’s grace? How does this passage point to Jesus?

➡️ What am I going to do about it?
Does this passage include a promise to claim, an action/attitude to avoid/embrace, or a principle to apply? How can this truth apply to my life? What could my next step be? How can I share this with others? Is there a verse or section of Scripture I need to memorize?
