Hebrews 8
April 22, 2022
“‘This is the covenant I will establish with the people of Israel after that time,’ declares the Lord. ‘I will put my laws in their minds and write them on their hearts. I will be their God, and they will be my people. No longer will they teach their neighbor, or say to one another, ‘Know the Lord,’ because they will all know me, from the least of them to the greatest. For I will forgive their wickedness and will remember their sins no more.’” (v8-10)
These verses are speaking to God’s promise of a new covenant, first made by the prophet, Jeremiah, hundreds of years before Christ, which were fulfilled in Christ. This new covenant is defined by:
God’s laws being something we ‘want to obey’ (instead of ‘have to obey’)
Relationship (instead of religion)
Knowledge of God (instead of ignorance of God)
Assurance of forgiveness (instead of living under a constant sense of dread)
Father, I praise You for the new covenant that You established through Jesus - that I am not only reconciled to You, but now live in a meaningful relationship with You everyday. Grow in me a desire to know You and obey You and daily spend time with You, in gratitude for what You did to atone for all my sins!

Use the following steps to guide your daily time with the Lord…
-
Start with prayer. Ask God to open your heart to help you understand and receive His Word.
-
Read and observe the passage carefully. As needed, read a second Bible version to help with understanding.
➡️ What does it say?
What does this passage teach me about God? What does it say about my sinful nature and my need for God’s grace? How does this passage point to Jesus?
-
➡️ What am I going to do about it?
Does this passage include a promise to claim, an action/attitude to avoid/embrace, or a principle to apply? How can this truth apply to my life? What could my next step be? How can I share this with others? Is there a verse or section of Scripture I need to memorize?
