John 12

September 28, 2022

“Then Jesus cried out, “Whoever believes in me does not believe in me only, but in the one who sent me. The one who looks at me is seeing the one who sent me.” (v44-45)

There is a lot of confusion today about who God is, and what God is like. Jesus cuts through all the confusion with His statement that to “look at Him” (v45) is to see God. In other words, Jesus not only restores us to God; Jesus reveals God to us. When we see Jesus’ love for people, His care for the poor, His concern for justice, His righteous anger toward sin, and His compassion for sinners - we are getting a window into the heart and holiness of who God is.

Father, thank You for sending Jesus - not only to save us from our sins, but to show us Yourself. What a gift it is to read the Gospels, and know that I am getting a clear picture of who You are. May that motivate me to keep opening Your Word and looking to Jesus, so that I keep growing in my knowledge of You.

Use the following steps to guide your daily time with the Lord…

  • Start with prayer. Ask God to open your heart to help you understand and receive His Word.

  • Read and observe the passage carefully. As needed, read a second Bible version to help with understanding.

    ➡️ What does it say?

What does this passage teach me about God? What does it say about my sinful nature and my need for God’s grace? How does this passage point to Jesus?

  • ➡️ What am I going to do about it?

Does this passage include a promise to claim, an action/attitude to avoid/embrace, or a principle to apply? How can this truth apply to my life? What could my next step be? How can I share this with others? Is there a verse or section of Scripture I need to memorize?
