John 4
September 16, 2022
“The royal official said, ‘Sir, come down before my child dies.’ ‘Go,’ Jesus replied, ‘your son will live.’ The man took Jesus at his word and departed. While he was still on the way, his servants met him with the news that his boy was living.” (v49-51)
The royal official requested Jesus to come to his home to heal his son. But Jesus countered with: “Go, your son will live” (v50a). And rather than negotiating with Jesus (he had money to offer) or trying to compel Jesus (he had power by way of his royal office), he simply “takes Jesus at his word” (v50b). What a beautiful picture of childlike trust by someone in an elite, influential position.
Father, I praise You that Your Word is trustworthy. If You say something is going to happen, I can take You at Your Word that it will happen. Help me to trust all of the incredible promises You make in Your Word. May I live today with childlike trust in You, so that I can experience Your freedom, peace and provision in ways that continue to build up my faith.

Use the following steps to guide your daily time with the Lord…
-
Start with prayer. Ask God to open your heart to help you understand and receive His Word.
-
Read and observe the passage carefully. As needed, read a second Bible version to help with understanding.
➡️ What does it say?
What does this passage teach me about God? What does it say about my sinful nature and my need for God’s grace? How does this passage point to Jesus?
-
➡️ What am I going to do about it?
Does this passage include a promise to claim, an action/attitude to avoid/embrace, or a principle to apply? How can this truth apply to my life? What could my next step be? How can I share this with others? Is there a verse or section of Scripture I need to memorize?
