John 9

September 23, 2022

“Jesus heard that they had thrown him out, and when he found him, he said, ‘Do you believe in the Son of Man?’ ‘Who is he, sir?’ the man asked. ‘Tell me so that I may believe in him.’ Jesus said, ‘You have now seen him; in fact, he is the one speaking with you.’ Then the man said, ‘Lord, I believe,’ and he worshiped him.” (v35-38)

The man born blind has his physical eyes opened instantly in v7, but his spiritual eyes are opened over the course of the chapter:

  • He sees Jesus as a “man” in v11

  • He sees Jesus as a “prophet” in v17

  • He sees Jesus as “from God” in v33

  • He sees and worships Jesus as God in v38

Lord Jesus, I praise You for opening my eyes (more and more) to who You are. I do see You as Savior and Son of God, and I gladly worship You as King of Kings and Lord of Lords. Like this man in John 9, continue to open the spiritual eyes of my heart so that I might see you and know You better, so that I might have a clear and compelling testimony to who You are and all You’ve done for me!

Use the following steps to guide your daily time with the Lord…

  • Start with prayer. Ask God to open your heart to help you understand and receive His Word.

  • Read and observe the passage carefully. As needed, read a second Bible version to help with understanding.

    ➡️ What does it say?

What does this passage teach me about God? What does it say about my sinful nature and my need for God’s grace? How does this passage point to Jesus?

  • ➡️ What am I going to do about it?

Does this passage include a promise to claim, an action/attitude to avoid/embrace, or a principle to apply? How can this truth apply to my life? What could my next step be? How can I share this with others? Is there a verse or section of Scripture I need to memorize?
