Revelation 10

November 4, 2022

“Then the angel I had seen standing on the sea and on the land raised his right hand to heaven. And he swore by him who lives for ever and ever, who created the heavens and all that is in them, the earth and all that is in it, and the sea and all that is in it, and said, ‘There will be no more delay! But in the days when the seventh angel is about to sound his trumpet, the mystery of God will be accomplished, just as he announced to his servants the prophets.’” (v5-7)

Apocalyptic imagery can be confusing. But the big idea, here, is that God hears the prayers of His people for justice (Rev 6:9-11), and will “accomplish” (v7) His redemptive purposes on Earth. In fact, we’re promised that His redemptive purposes will unfold “without delay” (v6), even though it feels like it’s been a long time coming. God will not withhold His justice. As we’ll see in the next chapter, though, His judgment comes only after further attempts to reach the hearts of rebellious people.

Father, I praise You that You are a God of justice, and that You will ultimately judge evil. Living in this world, and seeing all the places where evil seems to be ruling the day is discouraging. And so I pray for both the reminder that Your judgment is coming, and the heart to keep proclaiming the gospel - knowing that as we do so, some will turn to You, and be rescued from the coming judgment.

Use the following steps to guide your daily time with the Lord…

  • Start with prayer. Ask God to open your heart to help you understand and receive His Word.

  • Read and observe the passage carefully. As needed, read a second Bible version to help with understanding.

    ➡️ What does it say?

What does this passage teach me about God? What does it say about my sinful nature and my need for God’s grace? How does this passage point to Jesus?

  • ➡️ What am I going to do about it?

Does this passage include a promise to claim, an action/attitude to avoid/embrace, or a principle to apply? How can this truth apply to my life? What could my next step be? How can I share this with others? Is there a verse or section of Scripture I need to memorize?
