Revelation 21

November 21, 2022

“Then I saw a new heaven and a new earth…And I heard a loud voice from the throne saying, ‘Look! God’s dwelling place is now among the people, and he will dwell with them. They will be his people, and God himself will be with them and be their God. He will wipe every tear from their eyes. There will be no more death or mourning or crying or pain, for the old order of things has passed away.’” (v1a, 3-4)

The truth is: we live in a fallen world marked by heart attacks and heart ache, disappointment and death, broken bodies and broken relationships. But the good news is that because of what God did for us in Christ, there is a day coming, for all who turn to and trust Him, when He will set this broken world to rights and bring us into His Kingdom, a Kingdom that will no longer be marked by sin, sadness, suffering or pain.

Father, Son and Holy Spirit, I praise You that there is a day coming when there will be no more pain. I know that there is pain in the here and now – and that You are using it to deepen my desperation for You, to deepen my dependence on Your people, to deepen my delight in Your good gifts, to deepen my determination to live for Your glory and to deepen my desire for His Kingdom. But I praise You that there is a day coming when everything wrong in this world will be set to rights, when everything sad will come untrue, when everything broken will be remade, and we will live happily ever after – not as wispy spirits, sitting on clouds, strumming harps, but in new bodies on a New Earth. Thank you, Lord, for this glorious hope!

Use the following steps to guide your daily time with the Lord…

  • Start with prayer. Ask God to open your heart to help you understand and receive His Word.

  • Read and observe the passage carefully. As needed, read a second Bible version to help with understanding.

    ➡️ What does it say?

What does this passage teach me about God? What does it say about my sinful nature and my need for God’s grace? How does this passage point to Jesus?

  • ➡️ What am I going to do about it?

Does this passage include a promise to claim, an action/attitude to avoid/embrace, or a principle to apply? How can this truth apply to my life? What could my next step be? How can I share this with others? Is there a verse or section of Scripture I need to memorize?
