Make a Difference in a Child's Life – Become a Tutor!

Earlier this summer, we had the privilege of hosting 130 members of the Trinity family for a luncheon where Brady and Team M28 shared the incredible work God is doing in the lives of Muslims in North Africa. Inspired by their stories, we are reminded that impactful ministry isn't limited to far-off places. There are unique and meaningful opportunities to make a difference right here in Michiana.

Supporting Our Local Refugee Community

For the past couple of years, a dedicated team of volunteers from Trinity has been serving Afghan refugees who have settled in our community. These families, having braved incredible hardships, now face the challenge of building a new life while navigating unfamiliar systems and languages.

One of the critical ways we support these families is by providing basic tutoring and homework help for their children. These young learners face the dual challenge of understanding new academic content while also mastering the English language. And because their parents are pre-literate, they rely heavily on volunteers for that extra help they can't get at home.

Stories of Transformation and Joy

Beth Shire and Susan Huffman, two of our current volunteers, recently shared their moving experiences. Initially nervous and unsure, they found great joy in serving these children.

Beth recalls:

"I was nervous and apprehensive before I went to the Dawoodzai’s home the first time. When I got there, the kids gathered around me, and we practiced words with Susan Huffman. I have learned much about tutoring and working with the children from Susan. I look forward to going to their home now."

Susan also shared her journey:

"Before I started helping, I wondered if they REALLY wanted and needed my help. Now those initial questions have been answered. The older children are very easy to understand and talk to. They translate for us if needed, and the family has repeatedly expressed their gratitude."

These stories beautifully illustrate the life-changing impact our tutoring program has, not just for the kids but for the volunteers involved.

How You Can Help

We need more compassionate volunteers like Beth and Susan to join this mission. By dedicating just one day a week (or even every other week) from 3:30 - 4:45 PM, you can make a world of difference in the lives of these children.

Your tasks will include:

  • Helping with homework

  • Practicing reading

  • Sharing in the joy of games like Uno or Go Fish at the end of the session

Join the Team!

Your involvement would be a beacon of hope for these children and their families, helping them not just survive but thrive in their new home.

Ready to make a difference?

Thank you for considering this incredible opportunity to serve and make a lasting impact in our community. Let's light up their world right here in Michiana!
