Weekly Update - October 7

  • Well, it's finally here! Tomorrow, hundreds of us will head out into the community to put our love for God and our neighbors into action. This is a day all about loving others so that God gets the glory and that we might shine the light of Jesus right here in South Bend. Be praying for our teams as well as for all those folks we will serve and come in contact with throughout the day.

Speaking of being light in a dark place, when the winds die down, and the rain stops, folks impacted by natural disasters are left asking, "What now?" Meanwhile, folks in unaffected parts of the country are wondering, "How can I help?"

Some of us want to send funds or supplies while others are ready and willing to go, to be boots on the ground to respond to the immediate need. That's why we're teaming up with World Compassion Network, one of our ministry partners, to create the Disaster Response Team. This team will consist of men and women with a more flexible schedule who can do physical labor and don't mind less-than-ideal sleeping conditions.

Of course, we don't always know when disasters will strike, so here's how it will work. In the wake of a crisis, WCN will work with its partners on the ground and assess the immediate need. When they are ready to mobilize a team, a request will go out to everyone on our standby list. Within 48 hours, available team members will be on the road to respond.

So, are you in? The commitment today is just to put your name on the list to be contacted in the event of a need. If your situation is flexible enough that you could be gone within 48 hours to serve for up to a week, we'd love to have you on the team. Tap the button below to sign up.

Next, I want to be sure to draw your attention to a few great opportunities that might interest you. Events like Generations of Women, Guy Talk, the return of Operation Christmas Child, and our next GriefShare seminar which will help folks process how to deal with losing a spouse. Check out those details below.

Before I go, I want to encourage you to be sure to join us in person on Sunday morning. It's going to be a great morning to worship together, and we'll even have warm, gooey cinnamon rolls.

    That's right!

Join us for either service and enjoy a delicious Smithberger cinnamon roll afterward.

I'm looking forward to seeing you this weekend, have a great day!
