1 Peter 3

September 5, 2022

“Do not fear their threats; do not be frightened. But in your hearts revere Christ as Lord. Always be prepared to give an answer to everyone who asks you to give the reason for the hope that you have. But do this with gentleness and respect…” (v14-15)

The antidote to fearing what people think is “revering Christ as Lord” (v14). The more we recognize His greatness and live to please Him, the less we’ll be afraid of people’s opinions of us. Revering Christ will then lead to being willing to share Christ, not with an arrogant, haughty, puffed-up spirit, but with “gentleness and respect” (v15).

Jesus, I exalt you as the Lord. I give You the praise due Your name. Forgive me when I fear lesser things - like what people might think of me or do to me. May my desire to love You and live for You give me boldness to speak of You whenever I have opportunity to do so. And may my witness bear fruit - for Your glory and for the building up of Your Body.

Use the following steps to guide your daily time with the Lord…

  • Start with prayer. Ask God to open your heart to help you understand and receive His Word.

  • Read and observe the passage carefully. As needed, read a second Bible version to help with understanding.

    ➡️ What does it say?

What does this passage teach me about God? What does it say about my sinful nature and my need for God’s grace? How does this passage point to Jesus?

  • ➡️ What am I going to do about it?

Does this passage include a promise to claim, an action/attitude to avoid/embrace, or a principle to apply? How can this truth apply to my life? What could my next step be? How can I share this with others? Is there a verse or section of Scripture I need to memorize?
