3 John 1

“I have no greater joy than to hear that my children are walking in the truth.” (v4)

Now that all of our children are living outside of our home, I love to hear updates on each of their lives. And when I hear the reports of their ongoing love for Christ, their participation in a local church, and the ways they are serving Him - nothing brings me more joy. Nothing. Just yesterday, as one of our children was sharing with me how another one of our children is growing in Christ, I shed tears of joy.

Father, I praise You that my children (and their spouses) are “walking in the truth” (v4) in a culture that is increasingly hostile to You and the truth. But I know that is not every parent’s story. And so, I join with my fellow parents and grandparents, who are asking You to draw any children and grandchildren to Yourself, who are not presently walking with You. Do what only You can do, Lord, for Your glory and their joy.

Use the following steps to guide your daily time with the Lord…

  • Start with prayer. Ask God to open your heart to help you understand and receive His Word.

  • Read and observe the passage carefully. As needed, read a second Bible version to help with understanding.

    ➡️ What does it say?

What does this passage teach me about God? What does it say about my sinful nature and my need for God’s grace? How does this passage point to Jesus?

  • ➡️ What am I going to do about it?

Does this passage include a promise to claim, an action/attitude to avoid/embrace, or a principle to apply? How can this truth apply to my life? What could my next step be? How can I share this with others? Is there a verse or section of Scripture I need to memorize?
