Jude 1

“Be merciful to those who doubt.” (v22)
Even in a letter filled with strong warnings to those who are perverting the truth of the gospel (v4), Jude calls for mercy for those who doubt. There is a difference between promoting deception and struggling to believe. I wish I had seen this verse during my “dark night of the soul” when I struggled with so many questions. It would have brought me some measure of solace to know that my doubts did not warrant judgment and condemnation, but mercy.
Lord, I praise You for bringing me through a dark season of doubt in college. You did not condemn me and my questions, but showed me mercy - eventually opening my eyes to the truth of the gospel. Continue to give me a heart of compassion for those who have genuine questions about the faith. Open their eyes to the truth of the gospel - so that they might have the assurance they’re longing for.
