Colossians 1
July 26, 2022
“The Son is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn over all creation. For in him all things were created: things in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or powers or rulers or authorities; all things have been created through him and for him. He is before all things, and in him all things hold together.” (v15-17)
I can’t control the most insignificant of circumstances in my life, much less those big things in life that I really want to go a certain way. But I don’t need to try to control it all, because I belong to the One who sovereignly oversees the whole universe, “holding all of it together” (v17), including my little life. And if He is capable of creating the world out of nothing, and sustaining it to this very day, then surely I can trust Him to “hold together” my life in a way that fulfills His good purposes for me.
Lord Jesus, I praise You for sovereignly superintending every detail of the universe, including the details of my life. Forgive me for slipping into thinking that it’s up to me to “hold things together” or make certain things happen. I can’t even make my body, much less the world, work the way I want it to. And so I relinquish myself to You and Your rule, and trust Your good purposes to be worked out everywhere, especially in those areas that I can’t make things work out like I want.

➡️ What does it say?
What does this passage teach me about God? What does it say about my sinful nature and my need for God’s grace? How does this passage point to Jesus?
