Hebrews 6

April 20, 2022

“We have this hope as an anchor for the soul, firm and secure. It enters the inner sanctuary behind the curtain, where our forerunner, Jesus, has entered on our behalf. He has become a high priest forever, in the order of Melchizedek.” (v19-20)

Whenever the Bible speaks of “hope” - it is not a ‘cross-our-fingers, wishful thinking, Pollyanna hope.’ Rather, it is a confident expectation that God will keep His promises about His coming Kingdom. And the basis of this hope is Jesus, who conquered the grave, ascended into Heaven, and “entered the inner sanctuary” (v19), where He now intercedes on our behalf, as our High Priest. After all, if Jesus defeated death on our behalf, then He is the most secure place to put our hope for the future.

Jesus, I praise You for giving me a hope that that is “firm and secure” (v19). You warn us that in this world, there will be trouble (John 16:33), but You also fill me with hope in the midst of the trouble. Thank You for the “firm hope” (v19) You’ve given me that Your Kingdom is coming and that You will set to rights all that is wrong in this world!

Use the following steps to guide your daily time with the Lord…

  • Start with prayer. Ask God to open your heart to help you understand and receive His Word.

  • Read and observe the passage carefully. As needed, read a second Bible version to help with understanding.

    ➡️ What does it say?

What does this passage teach me about God? What does it say about my sinful nature and my need for God’s grace? How does this passage point to Jesus?

  • ➡️ What am I going to do about it?

Does this passage include a promise to claim, an action/attitude to avoid/embrace, or a principle to apply? How can this truth apply to my life? What could my next step be? How can I share this with others? Is there a verse or section of Scripture I need to memorize?
