Acts 27

March 14, 2022

“So keep up your courage, men, for I have faith in God that it will happen just as he told me. Nevertheless, we must run aground on some island.” (v25-26‬)

Paul is in the boat with men, who do not believe in Jesus, when a storm hits. But it’s this life-threatening storm that gives Paul the opportunity to bear witness to them about Jesus. And they eventually listen to Paul, because of a combination of his wisdom (he was right about the magnitude of the storm), his peace (when everyone else was in panic), and his compassion to see them saved (both physically and spiritually). And when they listened to Paul’s counsel - it led “everyone to safety” (v44).

Father, I praise You for being the Giver of wisdom, peace and compassion. I know that I’m not immune from experiencing storms in this fallen world: a loved one recently diagnosed with a terminal illness, a financial challenge, etc. But may I, in each of these storms, be a witness to You - through wisdom (seeing it with an eternal perspective), inner peace (that comes from not being afraid to die - because I belong to the One who conquered the grave) and compassion for others (pointing them to the One who can save them).

Use the following steps to guide your daily time with the Lord…

  • Start with prayer. Ask God to open your heart to help you understand and receive His Word.

  • Read and observe the passage carefully. As needed, read a second Bible version to help with understanding.

    ➡️ What does it say?

What does this passage teach me about God? What does it say about my sinful nature and my need for God’s grace? How does this passage point to Jesus?

  • ➡️ What am I going to do about it?

Does this passage include a promise to claim, an action/attitude to avoid/embrace, or a principle to apply? How can this truth apply to my life? What could my next step be? How can I share this with others? Is there a verse or section of Scripture I need to memorize?
