Galatians 6

March 30 2022

“Brothers and sisters, if someone is caught in a sin, you who live by the Spirit should restore that person gently.” ‭‭(v1‬)

We are our “brother’s keeper.” Although our culture promotes independence, autonomy and #youdoyou - the Scriptures call us to lovingly confront each other when we fall into sin. If there is a brother in my life who is caught (literally ‘ensnared’) in sin, then it IS my spiritual responsibility to gently confront and restore him. Not that he will always respond to this tough love. Sometimes he will, sometimes he won’t. But it’s part of our calling as Christians to watch each other’s backs, never with a haughty, self-righteous spirit, but with humility and gentleness.

Lord, I praise You for the work of Your Spirit, who lovingly confronts me in my sin - in order to restore me to Yourself. And I thank You for the way You’ve commissioned Your church to be a means of this ministry of restoration with each other. It’s sometimes awkward (and even painful) to confront each other, but it is so worth it to see a brother rescued from the snare of sin and restored to a life of following You. Empower me to humbly, gently, and courageously step into those restoration assignments You have for me - for Your glory and the building up of Your Church!

Use the following steps to guide your daily time with the Lord…

  • Start with prayer. Ask God to open your heart to help you understand and receive His Word.

  • Read and observe the passage carefully. As needed, read a second Bible version to help with understanding.

    ➡️ What does it say?

What does this passage teach me about God? What does it say about my sinful nature and my need for God’s grace? How does this passage point to Jesus?

  • ➡️ What am I going to do about it?

Does this passage include a promise to claim, an action/attitude to avoid/embrace, or a principle to apply? How can this truth apply to my life? What could my next step be? How can I share this with others? Is there a verse or section of Scripture I need to memorize?
