Titus 2

August 30, 2022

“We wait for the blessed hope—the appearing of the glory of our great God and Savior, Jesus Christ, who gave himself for us to redeem us from all wickedness and to purify for himself a people that are his very own, eager to do what is good.” (v13-14)

Our great hope is in the return of our great God. One of the reasons we know His second coming will be so good for us is because of how He demonstrated His love for us at His first coming: “He gave Himself for us” (v14). He redeemed us. He proved that He is for us by dying in our place. And so, we no longer need to fear judgment at His return. Because we now belong to Him, the return of our great King is our great hope!

Lord Jesus, I praise You for what You did for me at Your first coming. Thank You for redemption! And I praise You for what awaits me at Your second coming: glorification! Truly, this is becoming more and more my hope. Perhaps this is why You have allowed me to experience this season of pain - so that my heart’s deepest anticipation would be for Your glorious return, when You will set everything broken in this world to rights. Stamp eternity into both of my eyes, Lord Jesus, so that I put my hope in that which is truly worthy of my hope: Your glorious return!

Use the following steps to guide your daily time with the Lord…

  • Start with prayer. Ask God to open your heart to help you understand and receive His Word.

  • Read and observe the passage carefully. As needed, read a second Bible version to help with understanding.

    ➡️ What does it say?

What does this passage teach me about God? What does it say about my sinful nature and my need for God’s grace? How does this passage point to Jesus?

  • ➡️ What am I going to do about it?

Does this passage include a promise to claim, an action/attitude to avoid/embrace, or a principle to apply? How can this truth apply to my life? What could my next step be? How can I share this with others? Is there a verse or section of Scripture I need to memorize?
