Titus 3
August 31, 2022
“But when the kindness and love of God our Savior appeared, he saved us, not because of righteous things we had done, but because of his mercy.” (v4-5)
There is a list of reasons we are unworthy of being saved, which Paul mentions in v3: our foolishness, disobedience, being deceived and enslaved by our passions and pleasures, malice, envy and hatred. And then comes that gospel word, “But…” (v4). The kindness and love of God came to us, Paul says, not because of anything good we had done, but because of God’s mercy - so that He gets all the glory, and we are filled with gratitude that He did for us what we could never do for ourselves!
Father, I praise You for Jesus, who did for me what I could not (and would not) do. Hallelujah that He lived a righteous life and then died the sinner’s death. That is truly a picture of kindness and love that I pray will inspire godliness and gratitude in me today. Just as these very verses from Titus 3 are stenciled on our living room wall, write these verses on the wall of my heart, Holy Spirit, so that I never forget this good news!
