Acts 18
March 1, 2022
“Apollos had been instructed in the way of the Lord, and he spoke with great fervor and taught about Jesus accurately, though he knew only the baptism of John… When Priscilla and Aquila heard him, they invited him to their home and explained to him the way of God more adequately.” (v25-26)
Here is another example of encouragement and instruction in the early church. It happened all the time. And not just by the apostles. And not just in the synagogues or the temple courts. Here it’s happening by a husband and wife, who invite Apollos into their home to help him better understand who Jesus is and what Jesus has done. Apollos goes on to be a powerful preacher of the gospel. But it’s the simple encouragement of a couple, “inviting him into their home” (v26), that prepares him.
Father, thank You for the church - not only the vehicle for me learning, growing and receiving encouragement, but the vehicle for me giving encouragement to others - wherever they might be on the spiritual spectrum. And thank You for Your provision of a house that we can use to give encouragement to others. Continue to give Amanda and me (and others in the Trinity family) a heart to open up our homes to encourage others - so that they might more clearly see Jesus through us!

Use the following steps to guide your daily time with the Lord…
-
Start with prayer. Ask God to open your heart to help you understand and receive His Word.
-
Read and observe the passage carefully. As needed, read a second Bible version to help with understanding.
➡️ What does it say?
What does this passage teach me about God? What does it say about my sinful nature and my need for God’s grace? How does this passage point to Jesus?
-
➡️ What am I going to do about it?
Does this passage include a promise to claim, an action/attitude to avoid/embrace, or a principle to apply? How can this truth apply to my life? What could my next step be? How can I share this with others? Is there a verse or section of Scripture I need to memorize?
