Hebrews 1

April 13, 2022

“But about the Son he says, “Your throne, O God, will last for ever and ever; a scepter of justice will be the scepter of your kingdom.” (v8)

Jesus is not only superior to the angels (v4), but His Kingdom is superior to the most glorious of human dynasties. There isn’t one earthly kingdom or government that will last forever. They all have crumbled, or all will crumble. But Jesus’ Kingdom will “last forever” (v8). Not only that, but His kingdom will be marked by “justice” - the very thing that we human beings strive for, but can’t pull off here on Earth. When Jesus returns, though, He will establish His Kingdom and set to rights everything that is wrong and broken in this world. And not for a 4-year term, or a 40-year dynasty, but for all eternity!

Father, I give You praise - not only for the peace, joy, and assurance of my forgiveness that I get to experience now - but for the hope of a Kingdom that is coming that will be marked by justice. I pray for those in the world who are suffering under the tyranny of evil rulers. Convince their minds and comfort their hearts with the knowledge that there is a perfect Kingdom coming for all those who turn to and trust in the true King: Jesus.

Use the following steps to guide your daily time with the Lord…

  • Start with prayer. Ask God to open your heart to help you understand and receive His Word.

  • Read and observe the passage carefully. As needed, read a second Bible version to help with understanding.

    ➡️ What does it say?

What does this passage teach me about God? What does it say about my sinful nature and my need for God’s grace? How does this passage point to Jesus?

  • ➡️ What am I going to do about it?

Does this passage include a promise to claim, an action/attitude to avoid/embrace, or a principle to apply? How can this truth apply to my life? What could my next step be? How can I share this with others? Is there a verse or section of Scripture I need to memorize?
