Acts 10
February 17, 2022
“Now send men to Joppa to bring back a man named Simon who is called Peter.” (v 5)
The Apostles have been slow to leave the region of Judea, but that will not stop God from getting the gospel to the “ends of the earth” (Acts 1:8). God gets the gospel to Cornelius and his household by sending men to Peter (who is in Joppa - the town Jonah ran away to when he didn’t want to go to the Gentile city of Nineveh!) to bring him back to Caesarea. Joppa is mentioned multiple times so that we read this story through the lens of Jonah (Jonah 1:3). Here, like with Jonah, God shows His willingness to go to supernatural lengths to draw to Himself people from “every nation” (v35).
Lord, I praise You because You are sovereign and Your purpose of drawing to Yourself people from every tribe, tongue and nation (Revelation 7:9) will not be thwarted - even by our slowness to obey the charge to go! Forgive me, though, for not always sharing this same passion. Grow in me a heart for the nations to know You, and open up doors for our Trinity family to be even more a part of Your worldwide mission!

Read and observe the passage carefully. As needed, read a second Bible version to help with understanding.
➡️ What does it say?
What does this passage teach me about God? What does it say about my sinful nature and my need for God’s grace? How does this passage point to Jesus?
-
➡️ What am I going to do about it?
Does this passage include a promise to claim, an action/attitude to avoid/embrace, or a principle to apply? How can this truth apply to my life? What could my next step be? How can I share this with others? Is there a verse or section of Scripture I need to memorize?
