Luke 16

January 24, 2022

Whoever can be trusted with very little can also be trusted with much, and whoever is dishonest with very little will also be dishonest with much.
— Luke 16:10

The Lord speaks much about the importance of how we manage our money and see it (first and foremost) as a means of building up God’s Kingdom and blessing others - especially the needy. Even though I know that, I can still get focused on what I would or could do if I had more money - when my focus should be on simply being faithful with what has been entrusted to me.

Lord, I praise You for being the Creator of the Universe. You and You alone are the Owner of everything (Psalm 24:1). I am the steward. Forgive me for the times I slip into thinking of myself as the owner of ‘my stuff.’ Give me a vision for how to honor You with every dollar that You entrust to me. And guard my heart from falling into the trap of ‘loving money’ (v14) or believing the lie that I can serve both You and Money (v13).

Use the following steps to guide your daily time with the Lord…

  • Start with prayer. Ask God to open your heart to help you understand and receive His Word.

  • Read and observe the passage carefully. As needed, read a second Bible version to help with understanding.

    ➡️ What does it say?

What does this passage teach me about God? What does it say about my sinful nature and my need for God’s grace? How does this passage point to Jesus?

  • ➡️ What am I going to do about it?

Does this passage include a promise to claim, an action/attitude to avoid/embrace, or a principle to apply? How can this truth apply to my life? What could my next step be? How can I share this with others? Is there a verse or section of Scripture I need to memorize?
