Acts 1

February 4, 2022

“In my former book, Theophilus, I wrote about all that Jesus began to do and to teach until the day he was taken up to heaven…” (v 1-2‬)‬‬

Luke describes his first volume (the Gospel of Luke), as being about what “Jesus BEGAN to do” (v1), which implies this second volume (Book of Acts) will be about what Jesus CONTINUED to do. In other words, even though Jesus has ascended to Heaven, He is not done working! By His Spirit (v5) and through His followers (v12ff), He will make Himself known to the ends of the earth! (V8)

Father, Son and Holy Spirit, I praise You for Your great plan of salvation - that You carried it out all on Your own! Thank You, though, that You now invite us to be “witnesses” to it (v8). As I begin reading this story of Your work in and through the early church, I pray that You would teach me more of what it looks like to be a “witness” to You and Your great salvation!

Use the following steps to guide your daily time with the Lord…

  • Start with prayer. Ask God to open your heart to help you understand and receive His Word.

  • Read and observe the passage carefully. As needed, read a second Bible version to help with understanding.

    ➡️ What does it say?

What does this passage teach me about God? What does it say about my sinful nature and my need for God’s grace? How does this passage point to Jesus?

  • ➡️ What am I going to do about it?

Does this passage include a promise to claim, an action/attitude to avoid/embrace, or a principle to apply? How can this truth apply to my life? What could my next step be? How can I share this with others? Is there a verse or section of Scripture I need to memorize?
