Luke 10

January 14, 2022

Do not rejoice that the spirits submit to you, but rejoice that your names are written in Heaven.
— Luke 10:20

It’s understandable that the disciples returned from their mission trip (v1-11) rejoicing that the demons had to submit to them because of the authority Jesus gave them (v17). What a thrill it is to be a conduit of the Lord’s power! And what a joy it is to serve Him and be used of Him in ways that impact people’s lives here on Earth. But even this, as glorious as it is, should not be as much a source of our joy as the good news that we belong to Him and have the assurance that our future in Heaven is secure in Him (v20)!

Lord, thank You for the privilege it is to serve You - and to do so with Your Spirit’s help and power! What a gift it is to see You work through a mere creature like me. But may even that sense of privilege pale in comparison to the joy I feel when I contemplate all that You have done for me to secure my place in Heaven as Your beloved child forever!

Use the following steps to guide your daily time with the Lord…

  • Start with prayer. Ask God to open your heart to help you understand and receive His Word.

  • Read and observe the passage carefully. As needed, read a second Bible version to help with understanding.

    ➡️ What does it say?

What does this passage teach me about God? What does it say about my sinful nature and my need for God’s grace? How does this passage point to Jesus?

  • ➡️ What am I going to do about it?

Does this passage include a promise to claim, an action/attitude to avoid/embrace, or a principle to apply? How can this truth apply to my life? What could my next step be? How can I share this with others? Is there a verse or section of Scripture I need to memorize?
