Luke 6
January 10, 2022
Evidently, there are (and will be) people who believe enough in Jesus to call Him ‘Lord,’ but do not trust Him enough to submit to Him. Jesus says the consequence of this kind of religion is self-destruction: our life (house) will ultimately collapse when trials (floods) come (v49). This is in contrast to those who do not merely give cognitive assent to Jesus’ Lordship, but put his teaching into practice: their life will withstand the pressures of trials and hardship. In other words, our obedience to God leads to our good!
Lord, you are good. And all Your ways are good. And all Your commands are good. And all Your commands are for my good! Forgive me for when I settle for believing that You are the Lord, but not trusting You enough to live every aspect of my life Your way. Open my eyes to see how good You are (and how worthy to be trusted and obeyed), so that I live my life fully assured that trusting and obeying You is always for my good!

Use the following steps to guide your daily time with the Lord…
-
Start with prayer. Ask God to open your heart to help you understand and receive His Word.
-
Read and observe the passage carefully. As needed, read a second Bible version to help with understanding.
➡️ What does it say?
What does this passage teach me about God? What does it say about my sinful nature and my need for God’s grace? How does this passage point to Jesus?
-
➡️ What am I going to do about it?
Does this passage include a promise to claim, an action/attitude to avoid/embrace, or a principle to apply? How can this truth apply to my life? What could my next step be? How can I share this with others? Is there a verse or section of Scripture I need to memorize?
