Luke 4
January 6, 2022
Whereas the first Adam faced temptation and failed (Gen 3); the second Adam faced it and passed! Jesus knew temptation, just like we do, but unlike us, Jesus did not sin (Heb 4:15). Not only does that make Him a High Priest who can sympathize with us in our temptations; it makes Him One who can show us the way through temptation: the Word of God! In the face of temptations, Jesus (three times) quotes Scripture in His battle against the enemy… at the end of which the devil ‘leaves Him.’ (v13)
Lord, thank You for Your Word! What a gift You’ve given us for the battle against Satan. Forgive me for not taking full advantage of the power of Your Word in the face of temptations. Grow my desire to know and recite Your Word so I can combat the attacks of the enemy. After all, if You utilized the Word of God in Your fight against temptation, how much more will I, too, need the Word of God! Lord, thank You, too, for Your victory over Satan and sin - and for being a Savior I can turn to and receive forgiveness from when I do fall into temptation and lose - because You faced temptation and won!
